I recently had the pleasure of being interviewed for a podcast, produced by Mental Health in Schools specialist Anna Bateman.

Some aspects of work carried out by SEND and mental health in schools practitioners overlap, and we discussed how this can differ according to the school, the needs of the child, and the relationships that form between a child and their support network.

Most important of all of course, is that each child receives the individual assistance they need to enable them to navigate the challenges of the school environment, of learning, forming friendships and dealing with any learning difficulties they may have.

SEND and School Exclusions

I’ve noticed a worrying trend of exclusions in recent years, among the SEND community. This is something I will be exploring and reporting on more in the near future. I discussed this in the podcast, and offered some strategies to guide school leaders, in the hope that this will help at an individual, pupil level.

You can listen to the podcast here.

With thanks to Anna Bateman for the opportunity to speak about a subject that’s close to my heart. I hope you enjoy it and find it useful in your setting.
